This has to be my favorite story in the Bible; there is so much to draw from the story of the Prodigal Son.
John MacArthur does a great job of digging out the minute details of this story and bringing them to where we are living.
-
You see the haughtiness of sin with the prodigal's shameless demand.
-
You see the depths that sin will take you in his shameful misconduct.
-
You see the grace of God when he reaches a turning point.
-
You see the mercy of God when he returns to the Father.
-
You see the love of God when he is forgiven.
-
You see the compassion of God when he is so generously blessed.
Then the author shows the ugliness of self-righteousness in the elder son. The prodigal son wallowing in the hog pen wasn't any uglier than the self-righteousness of the elder son.
-
You see the resentment of the elder son toward his brother and his father.
-
You see the true character of the self-righteous elder son.
I love the way the author gives to the reader the shocking real-life ending.
A Tale of Two Sons is an excellent book loaded with preaching material.
I highly recommend that you get a copy today.
